The Nigerian Navy has announced the killing of 34 suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists during separate military operations in the Lake Chad area.
The operations were carried out by Nigerian Navy Marines attached to the Naval Base Lake Chad, working alongside the 403 Amphibious Brigade of the Nigerian Army under Operation Hadin Kai.
The Director of Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, describing the operations as intelligence-driven offensives against terrorist groups.
According to Folorunsho, the first operation took place on October 28, 2026, with initial reports indicating that eight terrorists were killed.
He said a subsequent Battle Damage Assessment increased the number of casualties to 28.
In another operation conducted on October 30, the Navy Marines launched a strike against a suspected Boko Haram hideout in Dumba following intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.
He said preliminary assessments showed that about six terrorists were neutralised, while several others sustained injuries.
“The casualty figures remain subject to further verification as operational assessments continue,” he added.
Folorunsho said the newly established Nigerian Navy Marines had strengthened the military’s offensive capabilities under Operation Hadin Kai since their deployment.
He noted that their involvement had improved efforts to attack terrorist hideouts, disrupt their activities and restrict their movements within the Lake Chad region.
“These efforts continue to support the degradation of terrorist capabilities and advance ongoing operations to restore peace and stability in the North East,” he said.
The Navy reaffirmed its commitment to supporting joint military operations through sustained offensives and intelligence-led engagements to improve national security and protect vulnerable communities.
