Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has reportedly been abducted by armed men in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
The reported abduction came shortly after Sowore raised the alarm over an attack by hoodlums at a restaurant in the town.
“Thugs just attacked us inside a restaurant in Ado Ekiti,” he wrote.
The development was later announced on Friday through posts on Sowore’s verified Facebook and X accounts.
“Armed thugs kidnap Sowore. His current location is unknown!” The second post reads.
Sowore, a journalist, politician and human rights activist, is known for his criticism of successive Nigerian administrations. He is also the AAC’s presidential candidate.
His visit to Ekiti was reportedly linked to activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
At the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, October 29, his defence counsel informed the court that Sowore was in Ekiti for campaign-related engagements.
The court subsequently adjourned his ongoing cyberbullying trial until November 3, 2026.
As of the time of filing this report, his whereabouts remained unknown.
