Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy has set social media ablaze with a powerful and emotional revelation about betrayal and personal transformation.

In a raw Instagram story, the Grammy-winning artist, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, declared that the iconic version of himself known as the “African Giant” is dead — and that it was his own people who were responsible.

“The ‘African Giant’ BURNA BOY died. His own people killed him,” he wrote.
Burna Boy didn’t hold back as he unveiled the emotional toll the betrayal has taken on him, stating that from the ashes of the African Giant, a new persona named “Big 7” was born — not to replace him, but to protect what’s left.
“Then ‘BIG 7’ was born to protect what was left of ‘BURNA BOY’. BURNA BOY and BIG 7 fight each other a lot because while BIG 7 is only protecting the final and only existing piece of BURNA BOY’s BROKEN HEART, the ‘African Giant’ still haunts BURNA BOY.”
The post has sparked widespread discussion, with fans dissecting the symbolism and emotional depth of his words. For many, it’s a rare glimpse into the vulnerability of an artist often seen as unshakable — and a stark reminder of the heavy price of fame, trust, and betrayal.
