Nigeria’s Super Falcons have dropped seven places from 36th to 43rd in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings released yesterday, but remain Africa’s highest-ranked women’s national team.
The 10-time African champions’ decline follows a mixed run of results, including their quarter-final exit at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco and a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup play-offs.
Nigeria also suffered defeats to Malawi and Cameroon during the period under review, although the team recorded two victories over Comoros in the qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games.
Despite their drop in the global standings, the Super Falcons remain ahead of South Africa, Morocco, Ghana and Zambia, who occupy the second to fifth positions respectively among African teams.
Globally, the top five remain unchanged, with Spain retaining first place ahead of the United States, Germany, England and Japan.
FIFA has scheduled the next edition of the women’s world rankings for release on Monday, December 7, 2026.
