Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed confidence that Southern Delta University (SDU), Ozoro, will blossom into a citadel of innovation, research and moral rectitude under the leadership of its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunny Awhefeada.
Oborevwori, who was represented by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, made this remark at a reception in honour of Awhefeada in Ughelli following a thanksgiving Mass organised by Awhefeada, his wife, Prof. Ufuoma Awhefeada, to thank God for his appointment and other blessings.
He described the appointment as a deliberate investment in the intellectual future of Delta State and expressed confidence that the university would attain greater heights under his leadership.
The governor said Awhefeada’s academic pedigree, administrative experience and commitment to education made him suitable to lead the institution at a critical stage of its development.
“His appointment is a testament to the fact that hard work, dedication to the educational advancement of our youths, and unblemished character will always be recognised and rewarded,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the new vice-chancellor would provide the dynamic leadership required to balance academic excellence with the changing demands of higher education, adding that his tenure would bring peace, infrastructural development, academic stability and global recognition to the university.
Oborevwori also urged the university community and other stakeholders to support Awhefeada with prayers, counsel and goodwill to enable him to deliver on his mandate.
