European football clubs Slavia Prague of the Czech Republic and Widzew Łódź of Poland have scouted young footballers at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, in search of promising talents for possible professional opportunities abroad.
The exercise featured U-18 players, with scouts assessing their technical abilities, tactical awareness, physical fitness, discipline and potential for development in European football.
Among the officials at the exercise were Uros Markovic, Head of Scouting at Slavia Prague, and Piotr Kaspzak, Head of the Scouting Department at Widzew Łódź.
Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Mr OnoriodeOborevwori, said the exercise followed an earlier scouting programme through which two Delta-born players, Augustine Freedom of Winsome FC and Oghoghoreva Ewhomazino of Mighty Wanderers FC, were identified and travelled to Europe for trials.
Oborevwori described their progress as encouraging for grassroots football development in the state, noting that the latest exercise offered more young players an opportunity to showcase their abilities before international scouts.
He urged the participants to demonstrate discipline, determination and a willingness to learn, stressing that talent must be supported by hard work and good conduct.
The visiting scouts said their assessments went beyond individual skills to include decision-making, teamwork, consistency, attitude and readiness to improve. They encouraged the players to remain focused on their development, noting that further trials would depend on meeting the clubs’ technical and developmental requirements.
The exercise is expected to strengthen opportunities for young footballers across Delta State, including those from rural and riverine communities, to gain international exposure and pursue professional careers.
