The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has warned the All Progressives Congress against underestimating northern voters ahead of the 2027 presidential election, saying financial inducements may not secure their support.
Baba-Ahmed, in a Facebook post on Sunday, questioned how supporters of President Bola Tinubu would persuade voters in Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina, Borno, Yobe, Kwara, Kaduna, Plateau, Kogi and Nasarawa states to back the President’s re-election bid.
He alleged that the ruling party would distribute huge sums of money to influence voters but insisted that such moves would not erase public grievances against the government.
“We know they will share money that has never been seen distributed in politics. Their problem is undermining the northerners,” he said.
“They are the ones that can sell us, let us forget the humiliation and disgrace that was done in Tinubu’s regime.”
The PRP chairman said northern voters would defend their dignity and political rights despite any financial inducements.
“We will show them that we, too, are citizens whose voices and dignity matter,” he said.
He also warned against attempts to manipulate the election results, insisting that the outcome must reflect the people’s choices.
“If we reject the APC and Tinubu, nobody should attempt to manipulate or overturn the outcome of the election,” he warned.
Addressing supporters of Tinubu and the APC, Baba-Ahmed said the opposition was prepared for the contest.
“As for those carrying the banner of Tinubu and the APC, you are welcome. Here we are, and here you are. Let the contest begin,” he noted.
He added, “May Allah deliver us from oppressors.”
Tinubu inaugurated the APC presidential campaign council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, saying he would not attend every campaign rally because governance remained a priority.
The council includes the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke; and Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo.
