The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has called on Nigerians to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information following the confirmation of an Ebola case in the Federal Capital Territory.
The agency, in a post on its X platform on Wednesday, said the Federal Government, working with relevant health authorities, was intensifying surveillance and response measures to contain the disease.
It explained that Ebola could be transmitted through direct contact with the blood or body fluids of an infected person who is ill or has died, as well as through contaminated materials.
The NCDC urged the public to promptly report suspected infections, noting that early detection and reporting were essential to saving lives.
It also advised Nigerians to obtain updates from credible sources and refrain from circulating unconfirmed reports about the outbreak.
The agency urged anyone with information about a suspected case to contact its 24-hour toll-free line on 6232.
