The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended a notorious kidnapper who had long been on its wanted list for multiple criminal offenses.

A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, said the suspect was captured following an intensive manhunt.

“The arrest of Abashed Gizo at the popular Shinge Cattle Market in Lafia was the result of an intelligence-led operation carried out by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID),” the statement read.

According to the police, the suspect had been on the Command’s wanted list for an extended period due to his involvement in various crimes, including kidnapping and cattle rustling.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crimes and led officers to his hideout in Ruwan Baka village, Doma Local Government Area, where an AK-49 rifle (Breach No. 453144) and a magazine were recovered,” the statement added.

The Command noted that the arrest is a significant breakthrough in the investigation of Fatima Salisu, who was earlier intercepted while transporting a cache of ammunition from Doma to Katsina State for criminal elements.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of all residents of Nasarawa State.

The Police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that efforts are ongoing to maintain peace and security across the state.
