Manchester United took full advantage of Robert Sánchez’s early dismissal to secure a hard-fought 2-1 win over Chelsea in torrential rain at Old Trafford.
The game, which entered Premier League history as the first to feature multiple goals, red cards, and substitutions in the opening half, was decided by strikes from Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro. The Brazilian midfielder, however, was also sent off before the break, adding to the drama.

The turning point came just five minutes in when Sánchez rushed off his line to challenge Bryan Mbeumo, bringing down the striker outside the area as he closed in on goal. Referee Michael Oliver had little choice but to brandish a straight red card.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was forced into early tactical changes, withdrawing Pedro Neto and Estevão Willian, before losing Cole Palmer to a recurring groin injury—all within the opening 20 minutes.
Despite being a man down, Chelsea threatened late on, with Trevoh Chalobah heading home 10 minutes from time. United, however, held firm to clinch their second victory of the season in front of minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who recently reassured head coach Rúben Amorim of his future.
The result extended Chelsea’s winless run at Old Trafford to 12 years, their last triumph coming under Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
