Tension gripped residents of Oko in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State following a violent attack believed to be cult-related, which left two people dead and two others reportedly kidnapped.

The incident, which occurred around 8:40 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2025, took place at two different locations in the community — the Total Junction and the Tipper Junction.

Eyewitnesses say the attackers, armed and operating with a motorcycle and an unregistered black Lexus 350 SUV, stormed Total Junction and opened fire indiscriminately. Four people sustained gunshot wounds during the shooting, including a female victim who is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
Moments later, the gang reportedly moved to the nearby Tipper Junction, where they allegedly abducted two individuals before fleeing the area.
Confirming the incident, Anambra State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that a joint team of security personnel — comprising the police, army, navy, civil defence, and local vigilante groups — had swiftly moved in and taken control of the area.
“Two injured victims, including a female, have been rescued and are receiving medical care,” Ikenga said. “Unfortunately, two lives were lost in the attack and two people were allegedly abducted. The command has intensified efforts, acting on leads from eyewitnesses, to track down the perpetrators.”
He added that calm has since returned to the community, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend those behind the violence.
The incident has heightened concerns over the resurgence of cult-related violence in parts of Anambra State.
