A speeding tipper loaded with sand crashed into a crowd along the Nnewi-Okigwe road by Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

It was gathered that the horrific accident occurred around 9:31 p.m. on Friday night, while people were engaged in their usual night-time activities when the tipper lost control and rammed into them.

Reports indicated that the crash claimed five lives, while five others sustained injuries.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the crash was caused by brake failure.
Confirming the incident to The Blaze Newspaper correspondent, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State, RC Margaret Onabe, said Reports from the Anglican Diocesan Hospital in Amechi indicate that six persons were brought to the facility, among whom three were confirmed dead on arrival, while one died later. The remaining two victims are currently responding to treatment.
Also, reports from Pat Angelina Hospital in Amechi indicate that four victims were admitted with bruises and bone injuries, one male adult was confirmed dead and the others are all responding to treatment.
The statement said “the Sector Commander, Nnennaya Alexander, who took the morning flight from Abuja to Enugu, went directly to the crash scene upon arrival. There, she met with the FRSC towing team, which was working to remove the vehicles involved in the incident.
Thereafter, she was received by the Mayor of Nnewi South, Honorable George Ezeogidi, who had been in contact with her even while she was leaving Abuja, along with the Unit Commander of Nnewi.”
The corp commander, while condoling the victims family, advised the Mayor and the council members to work with the FRSC to organize a town hall meeting aimed at educating the motoring public in their jurisdiction.
