Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-Min Son is on the verge of joining Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC, with advanced talks said to be close to completion. The 33-year-old South Korean star still has a year remaining on his Spurs contract, which runs until 2026, but has chosen to embark on a new chapter in the United States.

In an emotional media appearance in Seoul alongside newly appointed Spurs manager Thomas Frank, Son described the move as “the most difficult decision” of his professional career.

“I arrived in north London as a boy who couldn’t even speak the language,” Son reflected. “Now I leave as a man — and I’m incredibly proud of the journey I’ve had.”
Tottenham are currently in South Korea for their pre-season tour, with Son expected to captain the side against Newcastle United on Sunday. The friendly could serve as his final appearance in Spurs colours — fittingly, on home soil.
Frank, who succeeded Ange Postecoglou in June, hailed Son as “a true Spurs legend” and “one of the greatest players the Premier League has ever seen.”
“If this really is Sonny’s farewell, what better stage than here, surrounded by his own people,” Frank said. “It could be a beautiful ending to a remarkable era.”
Spurs are also scheduled to face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on August 13, though it remains uncertain whether Son will still be part of the squad by then.
