The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that Mr. Hector Ekakita, Chief Security Officer (CSO), and the Chief of Staff to the Sole Administrator of Ahoada-East Local Government Area, were responsible for leading a violent assault that resulted in the forced resignation of the council boss, Hon. Goodluck Iheanachor.
According to a statement released on Saturday by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the disturbing incident took place on Thursday, June 20, 2025, at the council secretariat, when Ekakita and the Chief of Staff led over 30 suspected hoodlums to attack and coerce Iheanachor into signing a resignation letter.
“The attackers, led by the Chief Security Officer and Chief of Staff, stormed the council office, physically assaulted the Sole Administrator, stole his mobile phones, and forced him to sign a letter of resignation under duress,” Iringe-Koko stated.
Viral videos from the scene show the embattled council chairman being manhandled by the mob while pleading for calm. The council secretary, Mr. Alabi, was also seen in the footage being beaten and dragged by the assailants.
The police condemned the act in strong terms, describing it as a serious breach of public order and a criminal offence. The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, visited the scene with other security chiefs and immediately ordered all individuals involved, including the CSO and Chief of Staff, to report to the State Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
“The Rivers State Police Command has invited the implicated persons for questioning and warns that failure to comply will attract severe consequences,” Iringe-Koko added.
She assured the public that the command is committed to justice and the protection of democratic institutions. Citizens were urged to remain calm and to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace in the state.
