The Anambra State Police Command has busted a child-stealing and trafficking syndicate operating across Anambra, Enugu, and Lagos States, rescuing a three-year-old boy who had earlier been reported missing.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued in Awka, adding that six members of the syndicate were arrested following an intensive investigation by operatives of the Gender Unit, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka.

According to Ikenga, the case began on September 4, 2025, when a distraught mother reported that her three-year-old son had gone missing after she left him briefly in the care of one Samuel Ibe of Umusiome, Nkpor Uno. Upon her return, both the child and Ibe were nowhere to be found.
“Swift and coordinated investigative efforts led to the arrest of the suspect, Samuel Ibe, whose confessional statement resulted in the arrest of his mother, Agatha Ejeweh (35), and his younger brother, Ejeweh Chigozie Chidera (15),” Ikenga stated.
Further investigations took the police to Enugu State, where Angela Eze (30) was apprehended for collaborating with another suspect, Juliet Onah, in facilitating the transfer of the stolen child to Lagos.
Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives extended their operations to Lagos State, where one China Cosmas was arrested, and the missing child was successfully rescued and reunited with his family in good health.
Ikenga confirmed that all six suspects are in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion
