Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has officially presented a proposal to serve a single four-year term if elected president, a move aimed at reinforcing his commitment to focused and accountable governance.
The development was confirmed by Dr. Yinusa Tanko, the national coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, during a ceremony in which Obi was honoured with the chieftaincy title Sarki Maskan — meaning “War Hero”.
Tanko disclosed that the proposal has been submitted to the opposition coalition for review. “It’s now in the hands of the coalition to deliberate on. But we strongly believe it is a workable and credible plan,” he said.
According to Tanko, Obi’s single-tenure pledge underscores a governance model based on integrity and urgency. “Peter Obi has made it clear that despite the constitution allowing for two terms, he is voluntarily choosing to serve only one. He believes four years is sufficient to make a lasting impact,” Tanko added.
Highlighting Obi’s key priorities, Tanko said the former Anambra governor is focused on revitalising infrastructure, stabilising the power sector, and transforming Nigeria’s economic productivity.
“Obi is determined to end the trend of planes leaving Nigeria empty. Under his leadership, Nigeria will become an exporting country once more,” he said.
Tanko concluded that the single-term idea reflects Obi’s readiness to lead with discipline, vision, and the urgency that the country’s challenges demand.
