– Says APC Insensitive, Anti-People

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decried the rising insecurity across the country and accused President Bola Tinubu of neglecting his constitutional duty to protect lives and property.

In a communiqué issued at the end of its 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, the main opposition party expressed grave concern over what it described as the “sorry and melancholic state of affairs” in Nigeria under what it called the “irredeemably exploitative, insensitive, and anti-people” administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by President Tinubu.
The communiqué, signed by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, stated:
“NEC condemns the worsening insecurity – the wanton killings, banditry, kidnappings, invasions of communities, and other acts of terrorism in various parts of our country – emboldened by President Tinubu’s apparent negligence and abdication of his constitutional duty to ensure the safety and security of the nation and its citizens.”
The PDP NEC also lamented the escalating economic hardship and deepening poverty in Nigeria, attributing it to what it called “ill-advised and poorly implemented policies” of the Tinubu administration. These include the removal of fuel subsidies, sharp hikes in electricity tariffs, multiple taxation, and unexplained charges on essential services.
According to the communiqué, these policies have led to the collapse of the productive sector, closure of millions of businesses, widespread job losses, increasing crime, and a general atmosphere of despair across the country.
“NEC condemns the policy inconsistency, widespread corruption, massive looting of the treasury, budget padding, and diversion of public funds under the Tinubu administration, all of which have resulted in infrastructural decay and eroded investor confidence,” it added.
The party reiterated its call on the Tinubu administration to reverse all anti-people policies and take immediate steps to address the nation’s worsening insecurity and economic crisis.
Furthermore, the NEC rejected what it described as a “sinister plot” by the APC to impose a one-party state on Nigeria. It accused the ruling party of seeking to suppress and eliminate opposition through intimidation, threats, and attacks on democratic institutions and figures.
“It is clear that this plot stems from the APC’s mortal fear of inevitable defeat in 2027 due to its abysmal performance in governance,” the statement said.
The PDP reaffirmed its commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and the supremacy of the people’s will, as expressed through free and fair democratic participation in multi-party politics and governance.
