Tension erupted in Iguomon Community, located in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, after a pastor and a married woman were reportedly caught in a compromising situation and subjected to public humiliation by irate youths.
Eyewitnesses claim the duo, said to be longtime secret lovers, were apprehended while engaging in an intimate act. A viral video of the incident shows both individuals seated on the ground, appearing subdued, with onlookers surrounding them.
According to residents familiar with the situation, the affair between the pastor—affiliated with a new generation church—and the married woman had been going on for some time before their secret rendezvous came to light.
Reacting to the disturbing development, human rights advocate and Head of the Talakawa Parliament, Marxist Kola Edokpayi, strongly condemned the mob’s action, describing it as a dangerous form of jungle justice.
“We completely denounce jungle justice in any form. What happened in that community is unjustifiable and could have escalated into a fatal incident,” Edokpayi said. “There are lawful channels to report such matters, particularly the police, who are empowered to investigate and take appropriate legal steps.”
Meanwhile, Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, stated that the incident has not been officially reported to any police station, and therefore declined to make further comments on the matter.
The video has continued to spark public outrage and debate on social media, with many calling for respect for the rule of law and caution against mob actions.
