At least one person have been reported dead as violence reportedly broke out on Wednesday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) council primaries in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), over a contentious delegate list.
Eyewitness accounts and visuals circulating online show the aftermath of the violence. In one video, a lifeless body is seen being rushed into a black vehicle as onlookers urge haste, with one voice in the background saying, “Quickly, put him inside the car.”
The crisis reportedly stemmed from discontent among party aspirants and members who rejected a delegate list said to have been imposed by the APC hierarchy. Allegations have emerged implicating the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, in the submission of a list that was neither discussed nor approved by local stakeholders.
A party insider who spoke under anonymity alleged that the list submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was manipulated to favor specific interests. “The National Chairman bypassed local stakeholders and sent in a list that does not reflect the will of the delegates. INEC has reportedly accepted the list despite protests from aspirants,” the source said.
Meanwhile, in a separate video released by SaharaReporters, the APC Council Chairman accused unnamed party members of being financially induced to destabilize the process. “You took money to destroy the system,” he declared during a heated confrontation. “We know the people behind this and we are not afraid to call them out.”
When contacted, FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, stated she had yet to verify the incident. “I am out of town at the moment. Let me confirm and get back to you,” she said when contacted.
The identity of the deceased individual has not been confirmed, and no arrests have been made as of press time.
