Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State will on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, flag off the construction of the 11-kilometre Aboh–Akarai Road and a bridge across the Okiri River in Ndokwa East Local Government Area, in a project valued at N29.8 billion.
The State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, announced the development in Asaba on Tuesday, describing the initiative as a major intervention aimed at improving access in riverine communities.
He said the road and bridge project forms part of a wider infrastructure rollout approved by the state government for the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency, targeting enhanced connectivity and mobility in previously underserved areas.
Aniagwu noted that the administration’s focus on rural infrastructure reflects its broader policy of balanced development across the state, particularly in communities where difficult terrain has long hindered economic activities.
He also outlined several complementary road projects billed for execution within the constituency. These include the Inam–Abbi Road, Ogbedigbo–Afor Road, Ebendo–Iyasele–Abala Road, and the first phase of the Ogbe-Ogume–Ebendo Road.
Other projects in the pipeline are the access road to the Kwale Free Trade Zone, Utage–Uno/Eweshi Utagba–Uno Road, Ushie Township Roads, and the Amai–Aragba Road in Ukwuani Local Government Area.
According to him, the projects are expected to stimulate local economies, ease transportation challenges, and integrate rural settlements into the state’s development framework.
The flag-off ceremony is anticipated to draw top government functionaries, traditional leaders, and residents from Ndokwa East and neighbouring communities.
