Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has described Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s prudent financial management as the hallmark of his administration’s achievements in the past two years.
Speaking on Arise News’ “Morning Show,” Aniagwu praised the governor for implementing strategic fiscal policies that have brought about stability, growth, and development across the state without resorting to borrowing.
He revealed that Oborevwori has repaid nearly N300 billion in inherited debts and consistently fulfills financial obligations to contractors, often paying 40% upfront to facilitate timely project delivery.
Aniagwu emphasized that this financial prudence is the foundation for the administration’s widespread development. Major infrastructure upgrades have been executed across Delta State, especially in areas like Warri, Uvwie, and Udu.
Notable projects include the revitalization of junctions such as DSC Roundabout and PTI Junction, as well as key bridge constructions like the Beneku, Ayakoromo, and Orere bridges. The Trans-Warri Bridge project, aimed at enhancing interconnectivity across riverine communities, is also progressing steadily.
In the education sector, the state government has established a new campus for Southern Delta University in Orerokpe while expanding facilities at the main campus in Ozoro.
Aniagwu also noted the development of residential flats for military personnel, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to collaboration with federal authorities and improving the welfare of service members. Additionally, economic empowerment initiatives have been expanded to support youth and women across the state.
Aniagwu underscored that Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to prudent governance has not gone unnoticed, with national media like THISDAY and Arise Television recognizing his achievements.
He maintained that the administration’s emphasis on probity, accountability, and unity is setting a new standard in public administration. “The unity he is building, anchored on prudent management of resources, is what stands Oborevwori out among many,” he said.
On the political crisis in the Warri Federal Constituency, Aniagwu appealed for calm among stakeholders, linking the unrest to electoral imbalances dating back to the post-1999 era.
He explained that following a Supreme Court ruling, INEC began restructuring boundaries to promote fairness among the Urhobo, Itsekiri, and Ijaw ethnic groups. Though the reforms have triggered resistance from those losing prior political advantages, Aniagwu urged all parties to recognize the necessity of change in pursuit of long-term equity and peaceful coexistence.
