The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has said that it foiled an attempt to smuggle psychoactive substances into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, in the Federal Capital Territory.

FCT Command spokesperson Samson Duza disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

He explained that the incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, when a man identified as Njimogu Ikedi attempted to visit an inmate while concealing cannabis sativa and other suspected drugs in his clothing.
Duza explained that during a routine security search, officers discovered items “believed to be cannabis sativa and other psychoactive substances concealed inside his boxer shorts, which were worn in the manner of a diaper.”
According to the statement, the Controller of Corrections in charge of the FCT Command, Christopher Jen, ordered the suspect’s immediate arrest and handover to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for investigation and prosecution.
“He further called on the general public and well-meaning Nigerians to support the Nigerian Correctional Service in its efforts towards reforming and rehabilitating offenders so as to foster public safety,” the statement added.
This incident followed a similar case in July 2024 , when a woman was apprehended for attempting to smuggle suspected psychoactive substances into the same facility.
