The Nigerian Air Force has denied any involvement in an alleged airstrike on Mbosi community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, which reportedly resulted in the death of three children and left one person injured.
Eyewitnesses had claimed that an explosion from a military helicopter caused the tragedy, sparking concerns among residents.
However, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, spokesperson for the Air Force, stated that no military operation was conducted in the area on the said day.
His comments were echoed by the President General of Mbosi community, Azuka Innocent Okolie, who also dismissed claims of military involvement.
In a statement shared on social media, Okolie mourned the loss of the children and described the incident as deeply painful. He emphasized that the Nigerian military operates under strict command protocols, making unauthorized action highly unlikely.
Okolie attributed the explosion to the Eastern Security Network (ESN), alleging that the group had planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) along paths and near homes within the community. He noted that similar attacks had been carried out by the group in nearby areas like Isseke.
He urged residents to stay alert, avoid suspicious areas, and cooperate with security agencies to ensure the safety of the community. “Let us work together to protect our people and prevent further harm,” he said.
