After days of public outcry, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board finally admitted responsibility for the mass failure that trailed the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.

Itt’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, who wept openly at a news briefing in Abuja on Wednesday admitted that a technical glitch affected 157 centres out of the 887 centres in the 2025 UTME.
“This was basically responsible for the general low performance of the candidates scheduled to sit the examination in those centres”, he stated.
He disclosed that about 379,997 candidates in the just concluded 2025 examination would retake the examination.
Prof. Oloyede took full responsibility for the negligence of its staff, revealing that 65 centres in Lagos and 92 centres in Owerri Zone covering the five states in the South East, would rewrite the exam.
