The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) has reiterated its support for the creation of state police, calling on the National Assembly to expedite the legal framework necessary for its implementation.

This was part of the resolution of a joint meeting between the 19 Northern governors and the Chairmen of the Northern States Traditional Rulers’ Councils, held on Saturday at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, and signed by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Chairman, Northern States Governors’ Forum and Governor of Gombe State, the Forum stressed the urgent need for more localized security architecture to tackle the persistent security challenges plaguing the region.
The governors resolved to not only support state police but also strengthen existing local initiatives and set up interstate surveillance platforms for better coordination along their joint borders.
The Forum also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his ongoing commitment to improving security and addressing infrastructural deficits in the North, acknowledging the Federal Government’s efforts in confronting the region’s challenges.
The meeting, attended by all 19 Northern governors and traditional rulers, stressed the importance of nonpartisan collaboration and peer review as effective tools for regional development and national stability.
