Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has alleged that a trusted associate betrayed him during the invasion of his Ibadan residence by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in July 2021.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, in Ondo State over the weekend, Igboho recounted how the betrayal nearly cost him his life.

“When my house was invaded, they wanted to kill me but failed. They fired guns at me very well but the prayers of you my fathers on me were answered,” he said.
According to him, DSS operatives gained entry into his home through his Personal Assistant, who was compelled to show them his room. But what hurt him most, he explained, was that a confidant he had trusted with secrets betrayed him to the security agents.
“One of my friends that I entrusted with secret had told them not to let the cat go. So they killed the cat and wrapped it with clothes like a corpse,” Igboho revealed, insisting the act was a direct attempt on his life.
“When I opened the door… they saw my cat on the bed,” he added, recalling the chilling details of the raid that left two people dead and several property destroyed.
The July 2021 operation drew widespread condemnation from Nigerians, including Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka, alongside socio-political groups, who accused the government of abusing state power.
Recounting his ordeal further, Igboho, who was later arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic, while attempting to flee, appealed to the monarch to intervene with President Bola Tinubu.
“Tinubu is your son, you can convince him to free me… I would have entered the bush and faced them [insecurity],” he pleaded.
In his response, Oba Ogunoye described Igboho as a symbol of hope for Yoruba youths and urged him to pursue his cause within the ambit of the law.
