As the 2025 Anambra State governorship election hold on Saturday, November 8, the State Government has urged all eligible voters across the state to come out en masse and actively participate in the forthcoming election.

In a press statement on Friday, the state Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, said active participation in this election is particularly important to reverse the low voter turnout recorded during the 2021 governorship election.

He said, “The Anambra State Government calls on all eligible voters across the state to come out en masse and actively participate in the forthcoming governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
“Active participation in this election is particularly important to reverse the low voter turnout recorded during the 2021 governorship election, when only about 200,000 of the over 2.7 million registered voters exercised their franchise.
The government emphasises that full voter participation is a fundamental expression of civic responsibility and a vital demonstration of commitment to democratic governance.
“As the Light of the Nation, Anambra has consistently taken the lead. Ndi Anambra should therefore, once again, lead by example by turning out in large numbers to vote peacefully and responsibly,” Mefor added.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday began distributing sensitive and non-sensitive materials to all 21 local government areas.
Speaking at the distribution centre at the Central Bank of Nigeria office in Awka, the the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Queen Awgu, said three key materials, the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, Forms EC8A, and Forms EC8B, were loaded into vehicles for onward transportation to the Registration Area Centres across the state.
“The idea is to ensure that the election starts as scheduled; that is the only way the process can go on without delay,” she said.
“People should come out and vote; participate in this election process. Do not stay at home thinking that your vote will not count, and do not assume that your candidate has already won.”
Agwu said over 5,718 polling units across the state will be fully equipped and operational by 7 a.m., ahead of the 8:30 am commencement time for voting.
On security, the Commissioner of Police in charge of election security in Anambra State, CP Abayomi Shogunle, disclosed that the number of security personnel deployed for the poll had been increased from 45,000 to 55,000 officers.
“We assure the people of Anambra that the election will be free, fair, transparent, and devoid of intimidation.”
“The increase in security personnel is not to intimidate eligible voters but to ensure effective operations and protection of voters and electoral officials,” Shogunle said.
