At least four persons have been confirmed dead while several others sustained injuries following a fatal accident on Monday at the Second Niger Bridge in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The crash, which occurred around 11:15 a.m., involved a truck loaded with cement and two other vehicles. Eyewitnesses said the truck, reportedly belonging to BUA, lost control while trying to navigate the bridge, crushing the vehicles in its path.

“We saw the truck at top speed. The driver couldn’t control it, and it eventually fell, crushing two other vehicles. Many people died instantly, while others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to St. Rebecca Hospital along Nnebisi Road,” an eyewitness narrated.
Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Delta State, Mr. Frederick Ogidan, said four persons died on the spot while three others who were trapped in the wreckage were rescued and taken to the hospital.
“The vehicle involved was a BUA truck carrying cement. It is unfortunate that such a crash occurred on a good road. The driver was likely speeding and lost control,” Ogidan stated.
Emergency officials have since cleared the scene, but authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution while driving on the bridge.
