Tragedy struck Kadauri Village in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State when a mine pit collapsed, trapping 15 miners underground.

So far, 13 bodies have been recovered from the debris, while two others remain missing as rescue operations continue. Authorities attributed the incident to heavy rainfall, which weakened the pit, and the unregulated activities of illegal miners in the area.

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, has taken over the rescue mission and deployed Federal Mines Officers to coordinate operations.
Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, described the incident as “avoidable and regrettable,” assuring that the government would not only intensify search efforts but also investigate the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
