A suspected armed robber was arrested in a food canteen in Asaba by operatives of the Delta State Police Command, leading to the recovery of two locally fabricated firearms.
The arrest, which took place on June 9, 2025, followed a raid by the Command’s DOPS Buffalo Team, led by DSP Charles Evboifo. Acting on credible intelligence, the team stormed the canteen—reportedly a notorious gathering point for suspected cultists and criminals—and apprehended the suspect, Kingsley Ugochukwu, aged 40.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the suspect attempted to dispose of a locally made Beretta pistol when he noticed the presence of police operatives. The weapon was later recovered at the scene.
Further investigation revealed that while in custody, the suspect placed a phone call to his wife, instructing her to remove another firearm from their home. Acting on this lead, police arrested the suspect’s wife, whose confession led to the recovery of a long-range single-barrel gun hidden in an uncompleted building.
Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the officers for their swift action and reiterated the Command’s commitment to fighting crime across the state. He also appealed to members of the public to support police efforts by providing timely and reliable information.
