As Governor Sheriff Oborevwori approaches his second year in office, the Delta State Government has outlined several notable accomplishments across infrastructure, healthcare, security, and housing.
Speaking during a press briefing in Asaba, the state Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, emphasized that the administration has left “bold and remarkable footprints,” particularly in rural development and public service delivery.
Aniagwu, who was accompanied at the briefing by the Chief Press Secretary to the Delta State Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, noted that critical road projects have significantly improved travel across the state, reducing the journey from Asaba to Ughelli to under two hours.
He highlighted progress on coastal infrastructure, including the Trans-Warri bridges and the revived Ayakoromo Bridge project, both of which are connecting remote communities to the mainland.
In anticipation of the anniversary celebrations, Aniagwu announced the inauguration of numerous completed projects, including the Beneku Bridge, Ishiagu-Ewulu Road and Bridge, and multiple road and erosion control works across Warri, Okpanam, and other localities. He noted that due to the volume, the Governor may delegate inauguration duties to members of the State Executive Council.
The administration has also invested in health infrastructure, equipping the Asaba Specialist Hospital, Warri Central Hospital, and Delta State University Teaching Hospital in Oghara with new medical facilities aimed at improving healthcare delivery and reducing the need for medical travel.
Addressing concerns around rising housing costs, Aniagwu revealed that the government is rolling out a housing scheme across all local government areas, starting with pilot units in Ozoro, Owa-Oyibu, and Kwale. Each location will feature 50 new residential flats to expand livable spaces.
Aniagwu reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transparency, prompt project payments, and ongoing governance despite the approach of election season. He cited the empowerment of over 250,000 Deltans through inter-agency programs and reinforced security measures, including new patrol vehicles and enhanced urban lighting.
