The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has firmly denied reports suggesting a leadership dispute within its ranks, describing such claims as false, misleading, and deliberately crafted to create disaffection.
Reacting to a report published by some national dailies, the party through its State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo Esq., rejected the claims in totality.
“The report is not only baseless and fictitious, but it is also a wide figment of the imagination of the writer,” the statement noted. “Rather than adhere to the principles of objective and ethical journalism, the writer indulged in reckless conjecture and deliberate misinformation.”
The APC stressed that it remains a united front, solidly rallying behind Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who recently joined the party from the PDP in a move described by the party as historic and widely welcomed.
“Delta APC is fully united, focused and solidly aligned behind the leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Executive Governor of Delta State,” the statement affirmed.
Addressing allegations of a parallel leadership or internal divisions, the party reiterated that Elder Omeni Sobotie is the only legitimate chairman of the APC in the state.
“There is no faction or splinter group within Delta APC. From the ward level to the State Executive Committee, there exists only one APC structure, operating in unity and cohesion under Elder Sobotie’s leadership,” the statement said.
The party also clarified that Governor Oborevwori has completed all requirements for his registration as a member of the APC and has since become an active stakeholder.
It went further to address the Unity Meeting of June 9, 2025, where the governor was adopted as consensus candidate for Delta Central, stating that the process was lawful and broadly endorsed by stakeholders.
“That historic meeting, attended by national and state lawmakers, former ministers, party executives, and grassroots leaders, was a clear demonstration of party unity, vision and commitment to strategic leadership going into future elections.”
The statement also pushed back against claims that Senator Ede Dafinone expressed dissatisfaction with the event, branding the allegation as a “deliberate falsehood.”
“At no point during the Unity Meeting did the distinguished Senator Ede Dafinone express the purported discontent falsely attributed to him by the writer. We challenge the writer and his sponsors to present any credible evidence to back this ridiculous assertion,” it stated.
The party called on members of the public to ignore the report entirely.
“We urge the general public, our party faithful, and all well-meaning Deltans to disregard the Leadership newspaper report. It is nothing but a desperate and clumsy attempt by enemies of progress to distract from the growing unity and popularity of the APC in Delta State.”
“Delta APC remains committed to building a stronger and more prosperous state under the visionary and inclusive leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. No amount of misinformation will derail our focus or the promise of the M.O.R.E. Agenda,” the statement said.
