A two-storey building under construction collapsed on Sunday along Ishaga Road, opposite the Central Mosque in the Idi Araba area of Mushin, Lagos State.
One person was confirmed dead, while three others were rescued alive and rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

The cause of the collapse remains unknown, though concerns have been raised about the building’s structural integrity and possible safety lapses.Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with debris scattered across the road and dust filling the air.

“I was passing by when I heard a loud noise, and the building just came crashing down. It’s a miracle that more people weren’t hurt,” said Justine Madueke, one of the eyewitnesses.
Rescue operations were carried out by officials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and other emergency response agencies.
The South-West Coordinator of NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed that rescue operations were ongoing to locate any remaining victims. He stated that two persons were initially pulled from the rubble, while a third was rescued at about 6:35 p.m.
Tragically, the fourth victim, a male, was recovered dead at around 8:00 p.m.Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, said the distress call was received at approximately 3:30 p.m. Responding agencies included the Isolo Fire Station, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, the Lagos State Ambulance Service, and the Nigeria Police.“Three adult males have been rescued with varying degrees of injury,” she said.
“They received initial treatment at the scene before being transferred to the hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service. The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.”
