The Asagba of Asaba, HRM Prof. Epiphany Azinge SAN, has called for the immortalisation of Delta State’s former governor, late Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan.
HRM Azinge made the call when he visited the Government House to sign the condolence register in honour of the late governor, who passed away on October 19, 2026, at 71 years old.
The monarch’s condolence message reads, ‘’Asaba mourns the passage of a visionary leader, detribalised Deltan, impactful and resourceful statesman and a perfect definition of servant-leader.
‘’Asaba is proud of your numerous interventions on our land, and we will not mind having any of them named after you. We will always remember you’’ the revered monarch wrote.
Addressing journalists on the sides, HRM Azinge said the late Dr Uduaghan impacted positively in Asaba during his era as Governor of Delta State from 2007 to 2015.
‘’We can equate him as a very visionary leader and a detribalised Deltan in the sense that he recognised Asaba as the capital of Delta State, and he did not hold back in any way. We can continue counting his numerous interventions.
‘’He started the Asaba Airport. He was instrumental in building this new Government House. He renovated all the schools in Asaba, including St Patrick’s College in particular, amongst many others.
He also made an impact by building the Asaba Specialist Hospital. We can continue counting…; Inter-Bau Flyover, and many others. He started the Asaba-Ughelli Road.
‘’For me, he made serious interventions on this (Asaba) land, and this should be an eye-opener to all and sundry, especially those who aspire to lead, that there is every need to recognise all the nook and cranny, particularly that Asaba, as the state capital, must be given the preeminence that it deserves. We can say without equivocation that the late Dr Uduaghan did that to the satisfaction of our people.
‘’I have just written (in my condolence message) that we do not even mind as Asaba people having any of these projects named after him. It is that serious. It is also a pointer and indicative of the fact that those who come after him should also note that a day like this will come and people will sit back, examine and come to a conclusion’’ HRM Azinge said.
