President Bola Tinubu has described the late elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, as a passionate advocate for resource control, social justice, and national unity.

Represented at the funeral service held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Kiagbodo, Delta State by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Tinubu said Pa Clark was “a beacon of courage who spoke for the Niger Delta and the nation,” and commended his integrity, fearless advocacy, and unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unity.

Also former President Goodluck Jonathan praised Clark as a great nationalist, an audacious voice for the voiceless, and a preacher of justice and minority rights. He recalled Clark’s legacy as a federal commissioner and elder statesman who championed equity, inclusivity, and good governance.

In the same vein, Senate President Godswill Akpabio described Clark as a pan-Nigerian and Pan-African leader who stood firm for the minorities and the oppressed. “He stood tall when others bowed for convenience,” Akpabio said, adding that his legacy will remain part of Nigeria’s national history.

In his remarks, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori hailed Clark as fearless, vocal, and unrelenting in speaking truth to power. He noted that Clark fought for improved living conditions, education, healthcare, and food security.

He urged unity in the Niger Delta to continue Clark’s legacy and emphasized support for leaders like Jonathan and Akpabio to advance regional progress.

In his homily, Archbishop Cyril Odutemu of the Anglican Communion cited Proverbs 22:1, reminding mourners that “a good name is better than riches.” He praised Clark’s integrity, legal advocacy for the vulnerable, and legacy as a true voice of the Niger Delta. He urged Nigerians to embrace righteousness, shun false prophecies, and live in a way that honors God, referencing Matthew 6:33.

The funeral drew dignitaries from across the country, including Dame Patience Jonathan; Governors Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi); Delta Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme and his wife; former Governors Ifeanyi Okowa, Senator Joel-Onowhakpo Thomas, Senator Ede Dafinone, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, Chief Rufus Ada George; and Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh.
