Nigerian music icon, 2Baba, has broken his silence on his separation from longtime wife, Annie Macaulay, after more than ten years of marriage.
Speaking candidly on the 234 Mzansi Podcast hosted by Nedu, the legendary singer revealed that both he and Annie had done all they could to salvage the relationship, but eventually came to the mutual conclusion that it was time to go their separate ways.
Without delving into the specific reasons for the split, 2Baba made it clear that the decision wasn’t made lightly. He praised Annie, describing her as “amazing,” and urged people not to stay trapped in unhappy relationships just to satisfy societal expectations.
“I think both of us gave it our best. And why we’re not together today is not something I’m going to talk about publicly,” he said. “Me and her have our own understanding. She’s amazing, it just wasn’t working no more. Something wey una get before wey no dey again, that’s why I said I won’t talk about it here.”
He added that only those inside a marriage truly understand its dynamics and that self-preservation should take precedence over social pressure.
“I think you should try to fix your marriage but if it’s beyond that, I don’t think anybody should force anything. Only people in the marriage know exactly what they’re feeling.
“It’s always good not to torture yourself, and not to allow society or people to dictate your feelings. Because this thing called ‘living in bondage’ is real and many people have gone to their grave very sad people.
“So for me, if it’s obvious that people cannot work things out then I don’t think anybody should force themselves to be together.”
The singer also drew widespread attention for his controversial stance on male fidelity, arguing that while a man can love and respect one woman, sexual exclusivity is against male nature.
“A man is not built to sexually be with one woman. His heart, love, and respect can be with one woman, but sexually, it’s impossible for a man,” he stated.
Following the public revelation of his divorce in January 2025, 2Baba is now reportedly in a new relationship with Edo State lawmaker, Natasha Osawaru.
